Process Improvement Project
For this assignment select either your own organization or an organization about which you
know enough to review the supply chain processes and identify a process that can be improved in
your sphere of influence.
Phase I: Improvement Opportunity
Write 500-750 words on improvement opportunity in your sphere of influence. Address each of
the following sections:
Quality Tool Analysis
Identify your problem statement and complete a root-cause analysis. Identify which quality tools
you used to identify and vet the problem. Explain the quantitative and qualitative tools you used
and provide a summary of how you arrived at your problem.
Stakeholder Analysis
Complete the interactive “Stakeholder Analysis: Winning Support for Your Projects,” located on
the Mind Tools website. In Step 2, select the “Interactive Screen App” hyperlink. Provide a
Power/Interest Grid of your completed chart (using either a picture format or a handwritten
document). In addition, provide a summary that includes considerations for all stakeholders.
These considerations will form your communication plan in Part II.
Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the
Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

Phase II: Planning and Implementation
In Phase II of the Process Improvement Project you will be creating a project timeline to help
you implement the proposed solution to the problem statement defined in Phase I. As a project
leader, you will need to consider several things before you start the project. The project leader
must preplan, plan, and kickoff the project.
Planning of the Project
As the project leader, write 500-750 words that address these items:
1. Identify which methodologies and strategies you will implement to meet your goals.
Provide rationale for why you did not select some of the other methodologies and
strategies.

2. Which business functions will be impacted by your action plan? What tactics will you use
to manage implementation across business functions? What can you do to enhance
collaboration/cross-functionality to ensure the success of your plan?
3. Timeline: Create a timeline to implement the proposed improvement to the problem and
identify the critical path components.
4. Communication plan: Using your completed quality tools analysis and stakeholder
analysis, create a communication plan for disseminating your action plan to all of the
stakeholders. Which strategies do you plan to utilize and why? Your plan should
demonstrate how you plan to use formal and informal communication channels to
implement the plan. In addition, explain how the communication plan addresses what you
are hoping to achieve with your goal.
Project Kickoff and Implementation of the Project
Successfully improving the value chain requires the willingness of required stakeholders to
participate. Imagine you are presenting your project plan in a meeting to all the essential
stakeholders for approval. Effective oral communication is essential in the business setting so
you will need to present your project plan logically and comprehensively to the stakeholders.
Create a PowerPoint presentation (7-10 slides) specifying the problem statement, stakeholders,
proposed solution, timeline, and communication plan to implement the project. Record yourself
presenting the plan and then post your video using YouTube, Vimeo, or any other video site that
allows you to post your video. Be sure to address the “why” and “how” in your narrative. Refer
to the materials section of Topic 8 for privacy settings when using YouTube.
Phase III: Evaluation
In the final step for your plan, state in 250-300 words the metrics you will use to determine
project implementation success. Please justify why you have selected those metrics. Include
specific metrics that will be used to evaluate the success of the implementation. How long will
the project team monitor project implementation?

Quality Tool Analysis
For this project, the Coca-Cola Company is selected for analysis of its supply chain. The
reason for selecting the Coca-Cola Company is because the company has one of the global’s
biggest supply chain system. The company deals in non-alcoholic beverages as a manufacturer,
retailer, and marketer of concentrates and syrup of a large variety of the company’s product lines.
The Coca-Cola Company’s supply chain is unique in the way it operates in that the company only
manufactures concentrates and syrups that are then sold to other companies in various parts of the
world who then does the bottling, distribution, and sale of Coca-Cola’s end products.
Even though the Coca-Cola Company has one of the most sophisticated and the largest
supply chains, there are several problems faced by the company’s supply chain including
managing inventory, managing suppliers, maintaining quality and safety of supply chain and risk
mitigation. Managing suppliers is one of the greatest challenges in the supply chain of the CocaCola Company. Coca-Cola Company being a multinational company, face a lot of challenges when
managing their suppliers and ensure that the company’s products reach the consumers in time.
Managing suppliers involves knowing the number of suppliers needed, how they operate and how
suppliers’ delays can be handled by the company. the challenges of managing suppliers in CocaCola’s supply chain emerges from the fact that the company has a global operation and therefore
there are many suppliers that need to be managed for effective supply chain management. The
cause of this problem is the wide range of product lines and the large number of markets that the
company’s products reach. Therefore, this presents a challenge to supply chain managers because
many suppliers need to be handled.

The quality tools used to identify and analyze the problem are; cause and effect diagrams,
statistical sampling, run chart and histogram. The cause and effect diagram also known as Ishikawa
diagram is a tool that looks like the skeleton of a fish. The cause and effect quality control tool is
a tool that was used to identify the root cause of the existing problem in Coca-Cola’s supply chain.
The statistical sampling tool is a tool that I used to measure the extent of the problem by focusing
on a portion of the total population. By using this tool, a bigger picture of the problem can be
established by studying a smaller sample. The run chart is used to graphically represent a series of
data recorded over a duration of time. This was important in analyzing the previous data on the
problem. A histogram is an analysis tool that is used to show how often a value occurs. This was
important in determining how often the problem occurred in Coca-Cola’s supply chain.
Stakeholder Analysis
Stakeholder analysis is an important factor to consider in project development. This is
because stakeholders help in getting the project into shape, help win resources, build
understanding, and get ahead of the game. The most appropriate stakeholders for this project are
the senior executives, the suppliers, shareholders, and the customers.

Figure 1: Power/Interest Grid for stakeholder prioritization
As shown in the Power/Interest Grid for stakeholder prioritization figure above, the
stakeholders with high power in this project are the senior executives, shareholders, and
suppliers. This means that the three categories of individuals will be key to this project because
they hold great power that will determine the success of this project. Therefore they need to be
consulted and convinced so as to win support for the project. The crucial stakeholders with low
power are the customers. Although they are important stakeholders in the supply chain, they
have little power to control the implementation of this project. In terms of project’s interest, the
stakeholders with the highest interest senior executives and suppliers. This is because this project
has a direct impact on their routine operations. Therefore, they need to be fully engaged in the
project development. They also need to be managed closely to ensure that they are satisfied.
Although the stakeholders have low interest, they have high power, and therefore they need to be
satisfied so that they can offer their support. Customers are in between the extremes of interests,

and therefore they need to be adequately informed because they can provide useful information
for the project.
