Description

Social media allows individuals to easily interact on the internet
through interactions in virtual communities. These communities
facilitate shared experiences and allow users to create and share
information and other media. Like in any community, there are risks as
well as opportunities.

In this Application, you will analyze ways a specific
social media might be utilized to promote positive social change. You
will create a PowerPoint presentation showcasing a social media resource
of your choice and describing your vision for ways in which it might be
utilized to promote positive social change.

You may consider personal or professional networks, content sharing sites, collaborative content development sites, peer-to-peer services, virtual games or social worlds, or any other forum that socially connects a large number of users on the Internet.

Submit a PowerPoint Presentation that contains 6–10 slides
with a narrative overlay. The overall slide show must be in the 6–10
minute range.

The presentation must be engaging, organized, easy to understand, and include the following:

  • An introduction to the presentation
  • A general description of the social media chosen
  • An analysis of whom utilizes the social media and why
  • A description of two ways social media might be utilized to support positive social change
  • A summary of the presentation

To complete this application you must have Microsoft
PowerPoint 2007 or newer loaded on your computer. In addition, you must
have a microphone to record your oral narrative to accompany the
presentation.

Refer to this week’s Learning Resources for guidance on recording audio and inserting audio into PowerPoint.

Design slides for an effective presentation. The slides
should be graphically focused with text limited to essential information
that cannot be shown through images or graphs. The narrative will
provide the details. The slides should complement that narrative, and
you should not be reading directly off the slides. It is appropriate to
capture the narrative in the Notes field if desired.

Once the PowerPoint slides are complete, you have created a
written copy of the narrative, and you have tested the narrative to be
sure it is the proper overall length (time), you will embed the oral
narrative into the file.

Be sure that your presentation includes an introduction to
the presentation, a general description of the social media chosen, an
analysis of whom utilizes the social media and why, a description of two
ways the social media might be utilized to support positive social
change, and a summary of the presentation

Save the PowerPoint presentation with your embedded narrative.
