Description

In order for managers to respond effectively to environmental or organizational pressures that can be disruptive to an organization, they must implement clear intervention strategies. In a 1,000-1250 word paper, propose a change plan to respond to the most significant pressures affecting the organization represented in your Pressures for Change assignment from Topic 2. Include the following:

  • Review the organizational/environmental pressures you presented in your initial paper: Determine which pressure is most important to address at this time in order to maintain a competitive and viable company. Summarize the pressure and how the organization is currently being affected. Project the outcome for the organization if it fails to address the pressure.
  • Develop a change vision to respond to the organizational or environmental pressure: The vision must define the organizational change and resonate with the decision making and strategies proposed in the paper. Additionally, the vison must include a cognitive and affective component in order to help stakeholders understand how to achieve the goals, and to inspire and motivate them to engage in the change.
  • Develop a change model to implement your change vision. Identify the specific steps needed to implement a change and effectively respond to the pressure. Describe a strategy for implementing each step.
  • Evaluate the potential resistance from stakeholders. Discuss the reasons for the resistance, at what point the resistance will likely occur, and some strategies for overcoming the resistance.

PRESSURE FOR CHANGE

Introduction
Organizations are continuously experiencing challenges when it comes to maturity and
growth and are either expanding or facing closure because of the good fortune or problems that
they face. Throughout the different changes, companies identify the pressures that they face to
make the necessary changes and become successful. The need for companies to make the
required change gets done after an assessment of all the areas that need improvement. This paper
seeks to evaluate the organization’s domains of pressure with a view of coming up with solutions
for the much-needed changes.
Background of the Company
Nestle U.S Inc. started its operations in the year 1867 dealing on prepared food and
beverage. Henri Nestle founded the company in response to the need for affordable food to help
the moms who could not breastfed their babies. Within a short period, it had diversified its
operations into other products such as dairy products and pet food among others as a market
strategy to remain ahead of its competitors (Siegert, 2014). The company operates in food and
beverage industry which is one of the most competitive industries in the world. As a global,
company, Nestle has a huge task of maintaining its competitive landscape while at the same
time ensuring that it does not compromise its quality and customer expectations and standards. In
the United States, Nestle U.S Inc. operates as a subsidiary of Nestle Holdings Inc. In the food
and beverage processing industry, there is stiff competition more so in the American market.
Nestle U.S Inc. faces stiff competition from companies such Pro Food Systems and Mount

(Hypercompetition?)
Pressures Driving the Company Changes
There is a lot of pressure facing the company and that continue to drive change to this
particular company and other related companies. One of the vital pressure currently being
experienced in this company and other related companies in the organic food industry is the
aspect concerning dieting and obesity, allergens and the increased pressure in the use of quality
ingredients (Siegert, 2014). Today, many people have become conscious about their health and
many organic food companies stand accused of the increasing levels of obesity and other food
allergens. As such, Nestle U.S Inc. continues to face pressure to ensure it utilizes quality
products that is responsive to the health and wellbeing of the population. (Category and subcategory?)
The company has been accused of having a weak organizational structure with workers
who attempt to join and form trade unions getting threatened that they will get sacked. In India,
the workers got reportedly threatened because of trying to formulate a trade union. There is a
conflict between the employees and management due to lack of training because according to the
management, the new employees should be able to learn from the existing employees (Woods,
2015).
The company is facing pressure from the external environment to tackle the waste that it
produces in a way that reduced the adverse effects of environmental pollution. Most of the waste

from Nestle occurs due to their packaging which is considered detrimental to the environment.
Climate change has confronted the company, and there have been calls to reduce the carbon
emissions in the environment. The emissions of greenhouse gases into the environment has
haunted much food producing companies, and the companies have started adopting zero waste
policies in their efforts to become compliant and reduce the waste that gets emitted into the
environment. Another environmental aspect affecting the company is how to become culturally
sensitive such as its slow response to issues that were raised in India on the quality of their
products and whether they were safe for human consumption. The company delayed in its
response to the test results and was not culturally sensitive in their response. The company now
faces the challenge of winning back the customer trust in India and many parts of the world and
how to recover the market share that it lost as a result of its insensitivity (Siegert, 2014).
(Category/sub-category?)
Communication flow within the organization is a significant driving pressure that may
negatively affect the business (Johansen, 2014). There is also a problem of disagreement among
the top management on the balancing of authority, and the use of channels puts junior employees
at risk if they work under a racist boss who is biased because they cannot report to the top bosses
without following the proper channels. The mentioned challenges affect the viability of the
company because the company is fighting to increase its market share and must be appropriately
placed to maintain its leadership position in the organic food processing industry.
Solutions to the Organizational Pressures
Nestle Inc can train its employees in a move to ensure that the firm can handle its human
resource in an effective manner that avoids any possible future conflicts that may arise.
PRESSURE FOR CHANGE
5
Employees should also be well managed and proper policies implemented to control their
relationships and behaviors (Siegert, 2014). The management should also employ workers who
are cooperative and can effectively communicate. It is essential for the employees and top
management to interact, and the use of a centralized way of making decisions as this will ensure
that the company responds immediately whenever an issue arises. The firm should also create a
flexible structure in its organizations to give the employees a chance to communicate their
grievances to the topmost management. Also, there should be a proper use of green technology,
which will help the company reduce wasteful emissions that it releases in its environment. The
company can include a top-down management structure that operates horizontally with the
decision-making structure flexible to be able to respond in real time whenever an issue arises.
Additionally, the company should conduct an evaluation of the whole procedure from the
unloading to the production end to warrant that there is proper implementation of the
environmental techniques.
Solution to Environmental Management of pressures
The company has faced a lot of backlash on its waste emissions into the environment, and
the company should take a proactive approach to the problem. Already the company has engaged
in training their employees towards conserving the environment. According to studies conducted,
the company’s use of Palm oil to make coffee was attributed to the extinction of orangutan
monkey species and negatively affecting the environment (Siegert, 2014). Engaging in corporate
social responsibility would enable the company to be accountable to the society which has
become keen on how companies manage the environment and therefore would also increase their
market share through proper and effective CSR to positively impact the environment and society.
PRESSURE FOR CHANGE
6
The company should take both a first and second order changes in its process of
becoming a global leader and increase its presence. In the first order change, the company can
make changes that reversible such as changing of the existing management structure of the
company through increasing their numbers or reducing the same. Another first order change
would be to improve the cost of its operations for a short period (Siegert, 2014). When it comes
to second order change, the company can expand its global market reach and take on new
markets. Another second-order shift that the company can undertake is the change of its
corporate culture to become active. (Active in what perspective or areas?)
In summary, the company should focus on solving its critical pressures to effect the
changes needed to better their services. Successful companies are the ones that understand that
change is necessary and change the way things are done to ensure that they obtain good results.
Nestle Ic organization must be ready to tackle its organizational and environmental pressures and
engage in CSR to repair its brand reputation and ensure that its activities are sustainable.
Dawn; great work on this first essay with comprehensive content development and
presentation. I’ve embedded comments in the essay on opportunity for minor additional depth,
development, and/or specificity, mainly on identifying the category and sub-category of the
pressures you identify, but you may need to change your ‘review’ settings on your Word
program to read them.
