Description
Assignment: Finalize Selection of a Project
In this week’s Discussion you proposed a project idea and explained why it might be attractive to funders. You also distinguished it from other projects that have tried to solve the same problem or meet the same need. With consideration to feedback received from your colleagues in the Discussion, and to your continued review of the literature, in this assignment you will finalize your project idea. In deciding upon a project, it is important to consider carefully the breadth of elements that will be addressed in the proposal. Although you will not have worked out all of the issues yet, you should have confidence that you will be able to resolve them. From this project idea, you will continue through the steps of writing a grant proposal.
As you look at evidence-based practices and/or what is currently being done to solve the problem or address the need, keep in mind that a funder will not fund an identical project, but if an applicant is proposing to build on what someone else has done, that might be acceptable.
At this point in your review of the literature, it is also a good idea to begin thinking about how you will support the need in your proposal. Proof of need might include numerical data/statistics (e.g., client-related, local, state, national). In other cases, surveys and/or focus groups might be required for collecting preliminary data that will support the need.
For this Assignment:
- Review this week’s Learning Resources. Pay particular attention to Chapter 1 of the course text, “The Conceptual Framework.” Looking ahead, these are the grant-writing issues you will be addressing throughout this course and in your grant proposal.
- Make adjustments as appropriate to the initial idea you posted in this week’s Discussion.
- Continue to review the literature as needed.
Assignment (2–3 pages excluding citations)
- Describe your project.
- Explain what led you to this particular project. Why did you select this one to pursue?
- Describe the purpose of your project and why you believe it should be funded.
- Explain how and why your project is a better solution than what is currently being done to solve the problem. Provide evidence-based information in support of your stance.
Support your work with specific citations from this week’s Learning Resources and additional scholarly sources as appropriate. Refer to the Essential Guide to APA Style for Walden Students to ensure that your citations and reference list are correct.
Use this Process Development Template as an iterative and cumulative worksheet for
keeping notes and ideas about the different elements that will be addressed in your
grant proposal. While this document will not be submitted for grading, it will inform
assignments that are submitted. You are encouraged to use this template as both an
organizer for and record of the work you are doing.
Project Summary
The Project Summary is the last piece you pull together for a grant proposal. This piece
of the proposal summarizes key information designed to convince a funder that the
project is a viable candidate for their funding. The Project Summary should briefly
address:

•
•
•
The Problem
The Solution
Funding Requirements
The Organization and Its Expertise
