Description

Respond to the attached categorical data analysis and answer the following:

  1. Do you think the variables are appropriately used? Why or why not?
  2. Does the analysis answer the research question? Be sure and provide constructive and helpful comments for possible improvement.
  3. As a lay reader, were you able to understand the results and their implications? Why or why not?

What is your research question?
There is an association between the education level and employment status. Additionally,
Kenny (1996) suggest that when considering the analysis of variance data, one must go in
depth. However, scholars frequently use the standard data-analytic techniques
of analysis of variance and multiple regression to analyze the required information. The
authors state that these tools are inappropriate; sometimes they provide only limited
information about the fundamental sources of variance.

What is the null hypothesis for your question?
There is no association between the education level and employment status.

What research design would align with this question?
A correlational design would align with this question. In particular, we would like to examine
if there is an association between the two categorical variables (Frankfort-Nachmias and LeonGuerrero (2018).

What dependent variable was used and how is it measured?
The dependent variable is the education category (level), which is measured at Ordinal level.

What independent variable is used and how is it measured? The independent variable is
the employment status, which is measured at Nominal level (Frankfort-Nachmias and
Leon-Guerrero, 2018).

If you found significance, what is the strength of the effect?

Chi-Square Tests
Yes, the result is significant. The strength of the effect is median, Phi=0.242 (Laureate
Education, 2016a)

Explain your results for a lay audience and further explain what the answer is to your
research question. From 6), we know that there is a significant association between the
education level and employment status. This means that whether one has a job depends
on their education level. It is more likely for one who has received post-secondary
education to have a job when compared with one who has not received any formal
education.
